Another endearing example of the charming and quirky films which are un-mistakenly that of director Miki Satoshi. 'Turtles are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers' is a story about loneliness, friendship, and the mundane existence of normal life.
Suzume (Juri Ueno) is an ordinary housewife, who spends her days doing monotonous house chores while taking care of her husband's turtle, whose well-being seems more important for her spouse than hers when he calls from overseas. But when an old flyer presents the opportunity for a life full of excitement, Suzume meets a very ordinary couple of spies, and with her ordinariness, Suzume seems like the perfect candidate for their job offer.
Miki Satoshi's second film, 'Turtles', is another endearing production, full of clever humour and pointed observations; an ensemble of the quirky and 'unordinary' characters inhabit the worlds of Satoshi, who prove that if you scratch the surface of normal everyday life, there can be more than meets the eye.
