A touching film about Hong Kong's culture and endearing personalities, Herman Yau's 'True Women for Sale' is an intelligent story about the survival of two women in the landscape of Hong Kong society.
Chung (Prudence Lau) is a cocaine-addicted long-time prostitute with a good heart, whose fortune teller predicts an important day in her near future. As she struggles to save up for a dentistry procedure to prepare for the big day, she catches the eye of a photographer and his journalist girlfriend, and through the personal interest story of her life, the burden of her past is revealed.
Meanwhile, pregnant Lin-Fa (Race Wong) from Mainland China has married Hong Kong worker Kin hoping for residency, but his sudden death destroys her plans. Hoping to receive at least the condolence money, she travels to Hong Kong, but Kin's family kicks her out and she ends up in Kin's apartment building and forms a strange relationship with insurance broker Lau.
